GANs: generator and discriminator
A generator turns noise into fake samples; a discriminator tries to tell real from fake.
The generator takes noise drawn from a simple input distribution (Gaussian or uniform) — think of as a latent representation of an image — and turns it into fake samples. Its output distribution is written .
The discriminator receives real samples from the data distribution (label ) and fake samples (label ) and is trained to tell them apart. When training the generator, its fake samples are presented with label so that the generator learns to fool .
Both networks are fine-tuned in alternation from the discriminator's feedback.
